Meet Canela—the owner & pulse of Canela Vintage
Canela takes inspiration from her day-to-day experiences, music, her first job working at Hot Topic, and her time spent living in Seattle. She would spend her days scoping out the thrift scene and taking in the mountain views. The eye-catching pops of color, earth tones, and textures found in nature translate into the style she brings Canela Vintage. Her shop takes on a cool but whimsical (whimsi-cool?) “your older sister’s closet” type of vibe that is perfectly nostalgic.
Canela, herself, radiates a warm, welcoming energy. Upon launching Canela Vintage her mission was to cultivate a space where embracing what sets you apart is encouraged. Five years into being a business owner, her first priority is still making sure everyone leaves her store or pop-up feeling empowered.
She can carry a great conversation with just about anyone. Her favorite show on Netflix is Velvet. She grew up near the beach on the Texas-Mexico border and is pursuing a B.A. in Mexican American Studies and NGO Management at The University of Texas at San Antonio. She pursues this major with a similar mission to that of her brand: to empower. She realizes that one might only touch a handful of people through clothing and her heart is too big to be limited. Becoming educated on our community is the key to reaching and uplifting those in need within our community.
Being fabulous isn’t the only way Canela Vintage contributes! Not only is Canela Vintage an exceptional contributor to the circular fashion economy, but we also give back to our surrounding community.
Canela Vintage has a partnership with Dress for Success San Antonio, an NGO that “empowers women to achieve economic independence by providing a network of support, professional attire, and development tools to help women thrive in work and in life (Dress for Success).” Canela has been supporting Dress for success for about three years. It's been a phenomenal collaboration that helps bring financial assets to the organization.
